The Richmond team that takes on the might of the Sydney Swans this Saturday night will no doubt be bolstered by the return of dual All-Australian defender Alex Rance, after he will have served a two-week suspension and it won’t be a moment too soon with Rance likely to combat the likes of Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin and/or Kurt Tippett. The defender that could most likely make way for his return is Jake Batchelor, who suffered a slight knee strain in the previous round and could possibly benefit from a week break.

The Tigers could potentially also be bolstered by the return of Captain Trent Cotchin. The fearless leader played out the game against Port Adelaide with a fractured cheekbone and is hopeful of returning after missing just a week, but whether he does or not is another story. If that was to happen, the most likely scenario would see the omission of one of the Tiger youngsters. Another Tiger coming back from injury is defender Dylan Grimes, who is available after recovering from a hamstring tendon injury. With the likely return of Rance to the senior team though, Grimes might find himself as an emergency come Saturday night.

Something possibly left of field to think about is bringing Ivan Maric back in after his somewhat surprising omission from the previous round. Whilst his senior return a few weeks back was not as everyone had hoped, he did have 34 hit-outs in a losing team in the VFL last Saturday. He could possibly either play alongside Shaun Hampson or come in for him, given Hampson still looked a little laboured at times during the game against Hawthorn last Friday night.
