Richmond youngster Reece McKenzie has decided to walk away from the life of as an AFL footballer after battling a mental health illness. 

The 20 year old was earlier this season granted indefinite leave by the Richmond Football Club, where he spent time away from the club to battle his ongoing medical condition.

McKenzie applied to play for the Marcellin Old Collegians in the VAFA for the rest of the season.

Richmond issued a statement saying that "the club understand's Reece's decision and wishes both him and his all the best in his football career and future endeavours"
